Lockport, Ill. – The Asian carp rapid response operation on the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal continues today. To date, 47 cubic yards of dead fish have been collected. Retrieval and identification of dead fish continues today. Application of the detoxifying agent potassium permanganate to canal water continued overnight. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers began its routine scheduled maintenance yesterday morning. That work continues today.
The media access area along the canal at the response incident command post on NW 9th Street and Powerhouse Road (under Rt. 7 bridge) near Lockport, Ill., will remain open today until 2:30 p.m. (CST). The access area is no planned to be open on Saturday, Dec. 5 as demobilization efforts continue.
